NPDB Insights - January 2019

Save the Date!

Our Education Forum is quickly approaching. On April 9, 2019, in the Washington DC metro area, we will bring together stakeholders, experts, and staff for a day of interactive learning activities, short presentations, and breakout sessions. Participants will be able to engage with our staff and receive technical assistance. Forum registration information will be sent to all NPDB users in the near future. For questions about the forum, please contact NPDBPolicy@hrsa.gov.

Is It Reportable image

Is It Reportable?

A health plan won a civil judgment against a clinical laboratory for submitting false claims. Two other health plans were party to the suit and received larger awards. Should all three health plans submit NPDB reports?

No. With respect to reporting health care-related civil judgments to the NPDB, when there are multiple health plans as claimants and a government agency is not party to the suit, the health plan that receives the largest award is responsible for reporting the total action for all parties.

Check Your Monthly Summary Email for Updates

NPDB Email Notification Image

Did you know we send monthly updates of your account activity? Monthly summary emails are a great way to monitor your account and stay current on any query or report updates.

The monthly email includes information on subjects you've queried, unviewed queries, and report changes. Continuous Query users will also receive updates on new subject enrollments, cancellations, and upcoming enrollment renewals. If your credit card on file is expiring, your monthly email will alert you and provide directions for updating your information. Also, each email will notify you of when your NPDB registration is due to expire.

Want to sign up for this and other notifications? Simply sign in, go to Update User Account, and select the option under Notification Preferences.

Our New Search Tool

Federal Hospital Image

We are always looking for ways to improve the overall customer experience. In April we started using a new search tool on our website, hosted by Search.gov.

This tool guides you to top-searched pages, saving you time while searching. If you search for clinical privileges, we will provide you with the most important pages related to reporting clinical privileges actions. Now when you search, your results page will have four tabs under the NPDB logo, labeled Everything, FAQs, Guidebook, and News. By selecting a tab, you will find just the filtered results that you selected.

We also now offer "exact phrase" searching; just put the search phrase in double quotes. "Health Resources and Services Administration" will return only results with that phrase, not pages that contain just the words "health," "resources," and "services" separately.

We continuously monitor search trends to make sure you can find what you need. Check out our new search tool today and easily find what you're looking for!
