What if the name in my personal account doesn't match the name I use?

The name used to verify your identity with ID.me is the primary name associated with your personal account. If the primary name displayed is not your legal name, you must update your ID.me account. Review the instructions on how to change or update your name on ID.me exit icon.

You can also update information in your personal account if you use different or additional names. Select the +Additional name (e.g. maiden name) link in the profile and add it. All names are displayed on your Self-Query response.

Note: Individuals cannot submit a Self-Query on someone other than themselves.

NPDB Name Character Limits

The NPDB has character limits for names in personal accounts. Last names are limited to 25 characters, and first and middle names are each limited to 15 characters. If a name is longer than the character limit, only the characters that fit within the limit will be displayed.

Add any alternate versions of your name as additional names in your personal account profile to help ensure your Self-Query response includes all applicable name variations.
